Today Value Way Inc. is releasing CHIZU (atlas.valueway.coffee), a free web tool for searching scholarly records related to coffee. No sign-up. No paywall. Open the page and it works.
What it does
- The searchable corpus is 190,643 records (matching against title, authors, source name, and topic name).
- Filters by country, field, and production stage (cultivation, processing, distribution, consumption, etc.).
- Every search URL is a shareable permalink. Send someone the link and they see the same result.
- Each record links out to its DOI whenever one exists.
- A country page for each represented country, producing countries included (e.g.
/country/id,/country/br).
What we can and cannot claim
The data comes from OpenAlex (Creative Commons Zero). We did not write these papers. What we did was gather the ones related to coffee, freeze the denominator, and rebuild the corpus so it can be filtered and shared.
Every quantitative claim we publish carries its qualifier in the same paragraph. “Among the 52.7% for which an author-affiliation country is present” or “within the 30.2% that carries a stage label” — the qualifier sits next to the number, not in a footnote. Naming the limit is not a weakness; it is the condition for having counted.
